You can't read nook books using a Kindle or Kindle app and you can't read Kindle ebooks using a nook or nook app. You can't download books for the Kindle using a nook and viceversa. As a side note, the nook color can be hacked to turn it into an android tablet, but it does require a good degree of technical knowledge so I don't recommend it because it voids the warranty and nook color is a pricey gadget.
